Chick Flick movie marathon

event poster and social media posts

Description

For this project, we were required to create a poster and three correlating social media posts to advertise an event of our choice that demonstrated the use of the four principles of design. The event I came up with was a movie marathon at a downtown theater showcasing three popular chick flicks (Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, and Clueless).

I utilized a bright color palette of various pinks in both my poster and social media posts to represent the stereotypical, feminine aesthetic usually associated with these types of movies. Originally, I had only used one type of pink (in different transparencies) for both of my designs but ended up including a darker, magenta color to add some contrast to my poster to maintain the viewer’s attention while also making the design less overwhelming to look at. I also organized the information on the poster into a rectangular shape so that it would be less chaotic and easier to read.

Various recognizable shapes were also included in both designs to demonstrate repetition and cohesion, such as the tickets around the title and the diamonds and polka dots in the background. These decisions tied back to representing the theater aspect of the movies as well as the glitz and glamor of Hollywood.
