Mountain East Medical Center Hires New Purchasing Department Head

Lynchburg, Va – Bob Wilkinson, head of the purchasing department at Mountain East Medical Center, has declared his resignation effective immediately in light of recent conflict with board of directors and is set to be replaced by assistant head, Johnny Toler.

Wilkinson graduated in 1972 from the state university’s school of hospital administration. He worked for a local community hospital as purchasing chief before coming to Mountain East. He has taken a new position as purchasing agent with City Memorial Hospital.

Recently, issues have been raised between Wilkinson and staff members addressing his tight-fisted purchasing practices, despite being told by the board of directors to begin cutting costs by 15 percent.

Toler has been an employee at the hospital for over 13 years. In 1978 he transferred to the purchasing department after beginning his career in the pharmacy as an assistant druggist. His wife, Carolyn, is head of the gynecology department at MEMC and they have two children together.

“Bob’s abilities will be greatly missed at this hospital,” hospital administrator Harry Illscott said. “But I know that Johnny Toler is a person we can all depend on to do whatever is necessary to keep his department going. I have great faith in him and in this hospital.”

The Mountain East Medical Center is a local private hospital based in Lynchburg, Virginia. This facility specializes in providing high-quality and attentive care to its patients and their families and practicing ethical and medical practices within each department.
